What is the notion of liberty that Mill argues for and what kind of tyranny does he seek to guard against?

Topic 1 Mill and Nietzsche: In On Liberty, Mill argues for a particular conception of liberty or freedom based on “one very simple principle” (8). What is the notion of liberty that Mill argues for and what kind of tyranny does he seek to guard against? In Chapter Four of The Subjection of Women, Mill argues that making women freer and more equal will benefit society. Explain his argument. Friedrich Nietzsche argues that rather than asserting equality for all, we need a pathos of distance. His view of morality seems to contrast with Mill’s “one very simple principle.” Explain his view (you only need to focus on what the pathos of distance is, why it is important according to Nietzsche, and why Nietzsche’s view of morality would contrast with Mill’s.). Whose view do you find more compelling? Why?
