As Human Services Professionals it’s important to learn about possible populations you may work with. This assignment is a research paper on a topic of your choice. Your choice must in the realm of the human services professions. It’s best if you choose a topic you have interest in. Examples of topics are: substance abuse, domestic violence, hospice care, mental health in the elderly, child abuse, child mental health, etc. Your paper must follow APA format, and be a minimum of 8 pages (not including cover page) and a maximum of 12 pages in length. At least 6 reference sources must be used. These references should come from books, professional journals, EBSCOhost or credible sources on the internet. You must use the following format for your paper: A. Introduction – Define and give a brief overview of the area/field you have chosen. Also, please identify why this is an area of interest to you. B. Discuss the history of the area/field (within the 20th and 21st centuries). What first caused it to be recognized as a specific field in human services? How has it changed over the years? C. Describe the demographic characteristics (age, race, socio-economic status, education) of the client population today; on both a national level and specific to Delaware D. Discuss the major issues and areas of concern that are important to this area/field. Discuss current trends in the field. E. Discuss what services exist in this area/field and explain what the services actually do to help the clients.
