The President of the United States had been accused of requesting assistance from a foreign nation to interfere in our Presidential election. This came to light through two “Whistleblowers” who provided evidence of the allegations. The House of Representatives launched a formal impeachment inquiry into the allegations. In carrying out this formal inquiry, the House of Representatives issued subpoenas for testimony and for documents. The White House has stated that it will not comply with the request. Keeping Them Honest, a watchdog organization, filed a lawsuit against the President and the State Department for failing to respond to the subpoenas. The House of Representatives have joined the lawsuit. Keeping Them Honest and the House of Representatives assert that the President and the State Department do not have the authority to disregard a valid subpoena from Congress. The President and the State Department argue that the President has Executive Privilege and cannot be compelled to participate in the impeachment process while he is President and that Keeping Them Honest has no authority to file the lawsuit. You are the District Court judge who this case is assigned to. How will you rule?
